Providence Resources, the Irish oil and gas exploration company backed by Sir Anthony O’Reilly, is diversifying into offshore gas storage.

The company has agreed to buy a 40 per cent stake in the Kinsale Head gas fields in the Irish Sea from Petronas, the Malaysian state energy company.
