Bold government action has prevented a financial meltdown, at least for now. But please spare us from experts telling us all is now fine and that we will “just” have a recession.

Many people will have started their working lives since we last suffered recession. They will not know how bad it gets when people lose their jobs and homes, families break up and society becomes a meaner, nastier place.
