DirectTV, the biggest US satellite TV operator, is to launch a broadband-based video-on-demand service this year to complement its existing satellite VOD service.

The new service, dubbed DirectTV Broadband Video, will launch in the fourth quarter and will offer about 2,000 subscription movies and other content, DirectTV said yesterday.
