Lenders welcome Darling’s bank proposals

Regulators and bankers welcomed a pledge by the UK government on Wednesday to toughen regulation of banks and the financial sector, although there were mixed views among analysts.

Alistair Darling, chancellor of the exchequer, said his wide-ranging proposals were designed to prevent a repetition of the financial crisis and the failure of British banks.
