Seoul intervenes to push up the won

South Korean authorities intervened to push up the won against the dollar on Tuesday amid growing inflationary concerns.

The won rose 1.5 per cent to 1,023.20 against the dollar, its biggest gain in almost three months, after Choi Jong-ku, head of the ministry’s international finance bureau, told reporters the government will take necessary measures to tame inflation that hit a seven-year high of nearly five per cent last month.
