UK will fight to retain its sovereignty in three areas

Britain is putting the fight to retain national control over criminal law, labour relations and foreign policy at the heart of its negotiating strategy for a revamped European constitution.

Tony Blair, UK prime minister, and his successor, Gordon Brown, are close to agreeing their priorities for an EU summit later this month, that will pit London against many of its European partners.
