Digital demand boosts Amstrad

Profits and sales at Amstrad doubled in the first half of the year after the company, founded by entrepreneur Sir Alan Sugar, began shipping set-top boxes to Sky Italia, which is rolling out digital TV services.

Pre-tax profits rose from £7.1m to £14.2m in the six months to the end of December, while sales rose from £29.5m to £63.5m.
