Rolls Royce secures Lightning II contract

Rolls-Royce has secured its first production contract on the F-35 Lightning II, or Joint Strike Fighter programme, the biggest defence procurement project to build a new fighter jet.

The UK aero-engine maker has signed a $131m contract with Pratt & Whitney, its US counterpart, to supply the lift systems for the first six jump-jet variants of the aircraft.
