Indian private airlines threaten action

India’s private airlines on Friday announced the suspension of all domestic flights for one day on August 18, in a show of unity in protest against the government’s refusal to provide them with financial support.

The carriers also threatened to extend the grounding of all aircraft indefinitely if the government failed to listen to their requests. The carriers have been hit hard by the global financial crisis and rising fuel prices.
