ICICI Bank seeks probe over ‘bear cartel’

India’s ICICI Bank has asked the police to hunt down a “bear cartel” that it alleges launched an SMS, e-mail and internet blog smear campaign in an attempt to bring down the country’s largest private bank.

ICICI has asked the Mumbai police economic crimes wing to investigate brokers and others that it alleges helped cause a run on some of its branches two weeks ago and were behind an attack on its shares by speculators.
