PFI deals on six hospitals reignite row

Six hospitals will be built under the private finance initiative scheme, the government said yesterday.

Although the government argued that the £1.5bn cost of the building programme followed a thorough review of the scheme's affordability, the plans led to accusations from trade unions and health experts that PFI schemes did not represent value for money.
