Times of recession can provide companies with the opportunity for greater gender diversity, according to academics from IMD in Switzerland.
Bettina Büchel, professor or strategy and organisation and research fellows Karsten Jonsen and Willem Smit suggest that when faced with downsizing the workforce, “gender sensitive downsizing” should be considered. In this way workforce numbers are cut, with the objective “to maintain or increase the proportion of women in management positions”.
