The World Health Organisation is discussing plans to launch a centralised system to purchase flu vaccines designed to save costs, boost immunisation rates and stimulate greater research into flu pandemic prevention.

Officials are preparing proposals ahead of a high-level international meeting on pandemic flu in Geneva in early November aimed at co-ordinating flu vaccine orders between different countries.
