Bloomberg scrapes to narrow victory

Michael Bloomberg on Tuesday night won a third term as New York’s mayor after a narrower-than-expected victory over his Democratic rival.

Despite closing the gap to single figures on polling day - Mr Bloomberg won with 51 percent of the vote to 46 percent for his rival - the Democrats’ Bill Thompson failed to overcome the fact that he was virtually unknown to most New Yorkers at the start of the campaign.
