Chinese seal off Tibetan capital

The Chinese authorities have sealed off Lhasa, the Tibetan capital, to visitors, deploying a large military and armed police presence before a "surrender deadline" of midnight tonight.

The government has also tightened control over information coming from the Himalayan region, blocking internet sites, including YouTube, which could be used to upload video content of the past week's protests.
