Markets plunge as outlook worsens

Global stock markets plunged yesterday after the worst US jobs figures for 34 years pointed to a rapidly deepening global recession.

With a loss of 533,000 non-farm jobs in November - far worse than most economists expected - the bad news from the US labour market capped a week of poor data from advanced economies.
