Profits halve at Reed Elsevier

Pre-tax profits more than halved at Reed Elsevier in the six months to the end of June as the Anglo-Dutch group felt the impact of restructuring costs.

Reed also reversed its previous guidance, saying it expected earnings per share to be “under some pressure for the full year”. In response, the shares fell 60¼p to close at 420p.
