Markets malaise hits net fee income at Hays

UK recruiter Hays offered further signs on Thursday that economic weakness is hitting the labour market, as it reported an 8 per cent fall in quarterly net fee income in its UK and Irish division.

The group, which makes half its income in those countries, said that demand for permanent placements in its next largest area, Australia, had also started to fall in the three months to the end of September, the first quarter of Hays’ financial year.
