Bush and Democrats square up over Iraq

Tony Blair will seek to use the state of flux in Washington politics to try to persuade the US to include efforts towards a wider peace settlement in the Middle East – in particular Lebanon and Palestine, and including talks with Syria and Iran – as part of a revised Iraq strategy.

In a speech at the Guildhall on Monday, the prime minister will argue that the conflict in Iraq has evolved and the strategy to deal with it must also evolve.
