Art sale auctions see record prices

Sales of contemporary art at the big London auction houses over the weekend have been buoyant, allaying fears of a price slump in the wake of the global credit squeeze.

The sales at Christie’s on Sunday and Sotheby’s on Friday night saw a number of records tumble, and works by established artists retaining their value.
