School report hits at focus on test scores

A detailed study of English primary schooling has concluded that education is “increasingly but needlessly compromised” by the government’s narrow concern with educational standards.

The independent report by the Cambridge Primary Review – one of the biggest investigations of its kind in a generation – will fuel debate over whether the focus of children’s education has become too constrained because of ministers’ determination to boost national scores in “Key Stage” tests.
