On London: The conspicuous attraction of large caps

First appearances can often deceive.

On the face of it, the London market has weathered the credit crisis relatively well. The FTSE 100 is up 5.3 per cent for the year, and just 177 points from a fresh seven-year high. Given the pounding taken by the heavyweight banking sector, that performance is remarkable.
