MMC agrees to settle lawsuit

Marsh & McLennan, one the world’s largest insurance brokers, on Friday said it would pay $400m to settle a securities class-action lawsuit brought by investors led by the state pension funds of New Jersey and Ohio.

The investors sued MMC after the company’s share price dropped by about half in October 2004 as Eliot Spitzer, then New York attorney general, investigated price fixing in the industry.
