Private schools linked to army boost

Britain would have insufficient officers prepared to join the army and “risk their lives” in Afghanistan without the contribution of leading private schools, according to the chief representative of the country’s top independent school heads.

Andrew Grant, chairman of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference (HMC) of 250 schools, told its annual gathering in Liverpool: “Without HMC schools, Britain would not have enough officers to lead its army.”
