The Isle of Man’s insurance sector, which employs about 2,200 of the 10,000 in the island’s financial industry, has not been immune from the storm that has beset global financial services but has so far weathered it relatively well.
Built up over 30 years, its two main parts are 15 international life assurance companies, selling investment products around the world, and nearly 160 captive insurers, which insure risks for parent companies ranging from financial groups to utilities, manufacturers and airlines.
