Bush sets scene for Colombia trade fight

President George W. Bush on Monday moved to force a vote in Congress on a controversial free trade agreement with Colombia without the consent of Democratic leaders, setting the stage for a bitter fight over US trade policy.

Describing Colombia as a “courageous ally in our hemisphere”, Mr Bush signed a letter requiring that lawmakers consider the deal within 90 session days, drawing immediate fire on Capitol Hill.
