Giuliani quits after Florida failure

Rudy Giuliani on Wednesday dropped out of the Republican presidential race and endorsed John McCain, whose victory in the Florida primary on Tuesday night solidified his status as frontrunner.

Mr Giuliani, the former mayor of New York, had staked his campaign on winning Florida but finished a distant third. His withdrawal left Mr McCain facing a head-to-head battle with Mitt Romney for the Republican nomination in next week’s potentially decisive Super Tuesday contests.
