Local operators blur India’s cable picture

The nerve centre of Naresh Bathija’s local cable television operation is tucked away beneath an apartment staircase in south Mumbai’s crowded Colaba district.

The four men crammed into this broom cupboard handle the pay TV subscriptions for 1,600 homes in the area, including the distribution of the set-top boxes that receive Mr Bathija’s cable signal.
