VW to halve China production

Volkswagen, Europe's largest carmaker, yesterday nearly halved its production target for 2008 in China as it froze ambitious investment plans for new capacity as part of a wide-ranging restructuring plan.

The German carmaker will keep capacity at 900,000 vehicles a year until at least 2008, well down on the target of 1.6m units set two years ago.
