WTO confusion hinders US-Russia trade push

Efforts to use Barack Obama’s visit to Moscow this week as a springboard for boosting American-Russian economic ties on Wednesday ran into difficulties, with confusion over Russia’s World Trade Organisation bid and differences over Soviet-era American trade laws.

The developments show it could be difficult to expand bilateral trade significantly from its current low base, despite plans by US and Russian companies to increase their activities.
