European telecommunications stocks shone Monday after a transatlantic bid approach for Telecom Italia had a positive effect on the whole sector.

Pirelli, the Italian conglomerate which owns 80 per cent of Olimpia, the holding company and parent of Telecom Italia, was in talks with AT&T of the US and Mexico’s América Móvil over a potential offer.
