Biden to run for White House in 2008

The field of Democratic presidential hopefuls grew yesterday after Joseph Biden, the Delaware senator, announced his intention to run for the White House in 2008.

Mr Biden, one of the leading Democratic critics of US policy in Iraq, joins Tom Vilsack, governor of Iowa, and Dennis Kucinich, the Ohio congressman who ran unsuccessfully in 2004, as the party's only declared candidates for the 2008 race.
