South Africa economy slows

South Africa’s economy slowed sharply in the third quarter of this year, with annualised quarter-on-quarter growth of 0.2 per cent, the lowest for a decade.

Official figures, which were slightly worse than economists had expected, are the clearest sign yet that the record annual average 5 per cent economic expansion of the period between 2004 and 2007 is coming to an end.
