Ambitious rail plan leaves sidings

The patience of business has been sorely tested during its elephantine gestation period.

But Crossrail, the £15.9bn rail project to link Heathrow directly with London’s financial centre, finally reached the end of a tortuous 20-year journey to secure royal assent on Wednesday – holding out the promise of a transformation in the corporate travel experience within a decade.
