Microsoft must pay for Facebook friendship

Microsoft has little choice but to pay up if it wants to cement its strategic relationship with Silicon Valley’s hottest internet company since Google.

That was the general view in Silicon Valley on Tuesday after reports that the software company was in talks over a stake of up to 5 per cent in Facebook that could value the social networking site at $10bn.
