Hospital reforms cut variation in service

The least well-off have not lost out from the introduction of competition between NHS hospitals and more choice for patients over where they have their operations, research has shown.

If anything, patient choice and competition appear to have reduced inequality, with less variation in how long patients from more deprived areas wait for treatment compared with those from more affluent areas.
