Sony seeks screen glory

To the outside observer, it might seem odd that Sony is pouring money into making liquid crystal display panels with its two biggest rivals, Samsung and Sharp.

But Sony is struggling to meet demand for flatscreen televisions. Observers say it needs greater volume to offset price falls for televisions of about 25 per cent a year.
