In 1948, the Riviera County Club in Los Angeles played host to the US Open. Sixty years, 11 US presidents and a cold war later, the tournament is finally returning to southern California.
The Torrey Pines Golf Course, located in La Jolla, about 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego, will be the site of the 108th edition of the US Open. Torrey Pines – named after a type of tree native to the area – will have the further distinction of being only the second public course ever to host the tournament. The first was New York’s Bethpage State Park, which had the honour in 2002.
