Turkey indicated yesterday that it was ready to retry Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the PKK Kurdish separatist movement, after the European Court of Human Rights ruled that his trial six years ago was unfair.
In a judgment with far-reaching implications for relations between Turkey and its large Kurdish minority, and between Turkey and the European Union, the ECHR said Turkey breached the rights of Mr Ocalan, who is serving life imprisonment at amaximum-security prison on an island in the Marmara Sea.
