Smart set to make first profit by 2008

Smart, the small-car brand owned by DaimlerChrysler, should make its first profit by 2008 - a decade after it was launched - its new chief executive said on Monday.

Ulrich Walker, who is reviewing the future of Smart after three months in the job, said his "personal target" was that the brand, part of the Mercedes Car Group, should make a profit "within the next three to four years".
