Retailers upbeat on Christmas outlook

Shoppers have been flocking to Britain’s high streets, helping retail sales grow at their fastest pace in two years and underpinning optimism about trading in the critical pre-Christmas period, according to the latest survey from the CBI.

The CBI’s monthly and quarterly distributive trades survey found a balance of 13 per cent of retailers reporting higher sales this month than a year ago – the second consecutive month of rising sales. A balance of 19 per cent said they expected sales to rise further in the remainder of this year.
