British cut back on eating out

The recession has taken a heavy toll on the eating out market, with annual sales expected to decline for the first time in nearly 40 years.

The market value of the so-called “informal” eating out sector (£15 and under) is forecast to drop by 0.5 per cent this year to £40bn ($65bn), according to a report published on Wednesday by Allegra Strategies and sponsored by McDonald’s.
