Thwarted TCI in call to avoid Japan

Foreign investors should avoid Japan until its corporate governance improves, a leading activist investor warned yesterday in the wake of a Japanese government block on its plans to raise its stake in J-Power, an electric power wholesaler, on national security grounds.

The J-Power case sent a poor signal to foreign investors, said Chris Hohn, managing partner of the Children's Investment Fund.
