Korean Air to launch budget offshoot in May

Korean Air will invest Won20bn to establish a budget carrier in May next year, launching “Air Korea” to compete with the likes of Singapore’s Tiger Airways in the low-cost Asian travel market.

The move signals a change in tactics for the Seoul-based airline, which has concentrated on improving its business and first class services as it tries to transform itself into a major regional player.
