Fresh push to revive N Korea talks

Efforts to revive six-party talks aimed at persuading North Korea to dismantle its nuclear weapons programme are expected to gain momentum this week as a series of diplomatic meetings takes place in northern Asia.

Colin Powell, the US secretary of state, is expected to visit Japan, China and South Korea to try to rekindle the talks, while China will apply pressure directly on North Korea when Kim Jong-il's number two visits Beijing today.
