ASX attacked over conflict of interest claim

The Australian Securities Exchange has come under fire from one of the country’s most prominent business figures for having a conflict of interest thanks to its dual role as market operator and market regulator.

John Cloney, chairman of QBE Insurance, said the ASX’s role as market operator meant it was not in its own interest to take steps to decrease trading volumes.
