Health and wellbeing initiatives feature prominently among the policies of companies listed in this year’s Best Workplaces awards. They range from the “Chill Out Rooms” in which the staff of Admiral Group, the car insurance provider, are encouraged to relax, to Beaverbrooks the Jewellers’ policy of monitoring working hours to ensure those based at home or on the road are not taking on excessive workloads.
Admiral, the winner in the Health and Wellbeing category, takes a broad interpretation of workplace wellbeing. This includes measures such as offering free fruit and operating pop-up messages on computers that, each morning, ask staff to sit correctly. There is also the less orthodox “Ministry of Fun”, which organises events such as space hopper races, treasure hunts and horse jumping in the office.
