Cost cuts lift Carlsberg profits

Cost cuts helped Carlsberg produce a better-than-expected 25 per cent increase in net profits during the third quarter but the Danish brewer warned that next year would be just as challenging as 2009.

Efficiency gains have allowed Carlsberg to cushion the impact of reduced beer volumes in many of its biggest markets this year, particularly Russia, as the global downturn has depressed consumption.
