The International Criminal Court sent shock waves through the legal community in July when genocide and war crimes charges were filed against Omar al-Bashir, president of Sudan.

Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo said he could no longer stay silent over atrocities committed in the Darfur region of the country, putting the ICC’s credibility on the line with its first indictment of a sitting head of state.
