US import prices surge by record rise

The price of imports into the US jumped by the most in more than a quarter of a century in the last year as energy costs soared, figures from the Labor Department showed on Wednesday.

Over the last 12 months, the import price index rose 11.4 per cent, the largest annual increase since records began in September 1982. In year before, import prices rose by just 1.3 per cent.
